R&D Tax Relief Architecture

Case study

A part of a portfolio of R&D projects, a global architecture firm developed a methodology for integrating acoustic fabric ceilings with natural daylighting strategies in hot climates. The advance objective was to create a ceiling system design that maintained high levels of acoustic absorption while simultaneously allowing controlled daylight penetration, preserving outward views, and mitigating the thermal impact of solar radiation on the stretched fabric material.

  • Eligible expenditure

    £5m

  • R&D Tax Relief Generated

    £750k

The complex geology combined with the demanding specifications of local conservation areas and discharge parameters resulted in conventional drainage solutions not providing the desired performance. The company developed unique drainage systems that had subsequent effects upon integrated infrastructure and foundation designs that necessitated R&D activities to enhance performance of subterranean construction features.
